It began as a selfish desire…I thought, what location is more beautiful than the shore and who better to photograph there than my beautiful friends?…so I asked 10 of them, “Who wants to do a photo session with me while we’re at the beach this weekend?” and nine no’s later, Sydney said “I’m in!” I was, at first, thrilled then later, humbled, for it became evident that this session was actually orchestrated by One who knows us and loves us enough to give us specific events to mark significant portions of our journey.
Sydney, you were at my left shoulder on my 35th birthday as we finished the half marathon that served as my benchmark for the end of a painfully wonderful year of my journey…one of coming to terms with God’s unconditional love for me. I have no idea why I had to run 13.1 miles and you got to stand elegantly on the sand (in the bitter cold wind), but I know this 40th birthday marks the end of a year of journey for you that is both fragile and priceless. He who began a good work will be faithful to complete it…in us both.
I was unable to put words to my thoughts as I photographed Syd on the beach, but I knew it was something special…and with tears in my eyes as I viewed her images, they came… “Holy”, “Sacred”, “Freedom”, “Beauty”, “Depth”, “Peace”, “Hope”
Here are a few images that took my breath away…
Happy Birthday, Sydney!
